Yesterday I was on a field trip and saw a lot of Thomas buses. I've seen this before, but a long long time ago. There were some Thomases that would have two 7 inch brake lights on each side and the normal 3 inch light. If you've seen Thomases with the 7 inch back up lights, it's in the same location. What would be the advantages of this system? Have you seen this often? I think on one bus, this was added on since the lights were mounted sloppy, but the other was original and I do know it's an option.

yeah, they were Bloomfield Hills buses. We were in Walled Lake for a play. The play really sucked, but the buses were worth it!

Hi Mike,

Just thought you'd be interested in knowing that Thomas is not the only manufacturer who offers that configuration. I saw a picture of an International IC school bus that had the two 7" brake lights next to each other, where the typical 3" reverse lights would go on those buses. It was pretty odd looking to say the least.

In MA, I see a lot of newer Thomas buses that have both the 7" reverse lights mounted next to the brake lights and turn signals, in addition to the 3" reverse lights mounted near the 3" tail lights. I have only seen this on the Thomas buses. I think the dealer up here spec's those buses out that way. I have not seen this set-up on Blue Bird or International buses. They just have either the 3" or 7" reverse lights.

Our mechanics from time to time have to replace the engine door on the RE's. When they do, they get to mount the lights, new ones, not reused, on the doors.

One reason why I like the International RE's is because all of the tail lights on those buses are not mounted on the door, but rather the body. This is particularly useful for if the rear engine compartment door needs to be replaced. You just have to replace the door, rather than the door and tail lights. I know it's not that big of a deal, but I like that set-up.
