Lakewood Township Public Schools in NJ just took delivery of a 2014 Navistar/IC CE. According to NJ DMV website VIN is 4DRBUAAP2EB338098, with the E signifiying 2014 model year.

It should be mentioned that Lakewood, whose buses have been privatized for almost 30 years, is considering fielding its own fleet again, which would number about 75 buses. |

Thats so stupid to call a vechicle 2014 and its not even 2013 yet. I just dont get all this anymore. Buses built in 2010 titled as 2012 and so on. Its hard to tell whats what..... |

I don't see how they bus makers get away with it. I understand the reasoning to help out guys who are only allowed to run a bus under "12 years old" or whatever...but come on...when I see a bus built in 2005 that is called a 2008 on it's title... |

It's not a matter of getting away with it. The Federal Government permits model year to be designated up to 18 months prior to actual calender year. So you could have model year 2014 showing up in June, 2012. |

IC released the 2014 in August. Never go by the year on the title. Always go by the 10th in the VIN. Titles can be wrong |

At least in this day and age of integrated buses the body and chassis are the same model year. |
Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback |

Not really. Each county has its own numbering system to figure out the year. Well, at least I know KY does. I kind of get what you're saying, but you think they should release it in 2014? Some of the ICs below the year of 2014 have problems. They released them a couple of years before the year so the district doesn't have to wait for new buses. |

Actually there are only a handful of counties in Kentucky that number buses based on year. It's not always 100% accurate either, I've found a few mistakes over time. Districts get to choose what numbers their buses have. In other states, it's pretty much the same way. I believe there are a few states though where the state issues numbers (like NC and SC), but their fleets are state owned, rather than district owned. |

A good rule of thumb is to just go by the date of manufacture. This Is required on the data tag inside the bus, usually on the front bulkhead. I think IC is ahead of BB and Thomas, I don't think either of them are into the 2014 MY yet. |

You cant tell the year of the bus by the date of manufacture. The 10th of the VIN is the only way. Ford and GM chassis buses just got into the 2013 model year this month. While the big 3 are in the 2014 year now. Both will have the same date of manufacture |

Dang, they really bostered the standard equipment. 11R22.5's and 240 amp alternators standard now. Power door too! (I'd upgrade from electric to air though) |

I still say if its built in 2012 it should be a 2012 model vehicle. |

Well, my bus is a 2013 Thomas CNG powered HDX according to the VIN. But the title says it's a 2012. I think it has a lot to do with the parts and when the bus is actually completed. |
3070N is my bus number and the N stands for Compressed Natural Gas..... |

I would go by the VIN number instead of the title.

Wouldn't it be nice if if there were no model year and it was simply based off date of manufacture? Have all the new models and updates come out on January 1st and continue production until December 31st, I say.
We got our '08 model year Thomas EFs in September 2007. Then, by December, they switched to '09. |
