I am curious if any districts assign a training value (or contract) with new drivers as they begin? Trucking and private companies require "service contracts" or drivers must pay a fee if they leave early. As we provide CDL, bus, and air brake certification, + paid time, it is disappointing to lose drivers to other jobs. Do other districts have this problem?
CT used to have a Z restriction that would restrict a CDL to driving a school bus only. If you tested for your CDL in a school bus, you would automatically get the Z on your license until you took a test in another type of commercial vehicle. The idea was to keep people from getting hired and trained by school bus companies and then bailing after they got licensed, but it backfired since most of the larger companies also run activity buses or motorcoaches. They did away with the restriction several years ago because of the hassles in cross-training drivers to commercial buses.
