You won't find any. CROWN went out of business in 91 and never built anything on a Freightliner chassis.
Sorry, I had to. |

They built a number of them on Freightliner Chassis. That's when Carpenter became Crown....We had 20 of the 1998 models, all 65 passenger with CAT engines....Sorry, no pics...Don't want to remember them!! The body and chassis were okay, the engines were awful!!! |

Rich, I like the second one you posted, but that cross arm needs to go. Clearly Carpenter didn't bother to conform the cross arm to the unstraight bumper like Thomas did... unless that one was retrofit. |

Carpenter never became Crown, they never had legal ownership of the Crown name. They purchased at auction the designs of the Crowns...and ultimately tarnished the Crown name building low quality junk.

I thought those above photos looked familiar. I took those on the UConn campus back when I drove there. How do they look now in comparison to the pix after 8 years of quality First Student care? Those photos were probably taken in 2002 or 2003.
Here's another sharp looking Crown Freightliner. Schoolbus56 should recognize this one:

IMO, the Carpenter/Crown By Carpenter body looked the best on the Freightliner chassis.
There are quite a few nice looking Crown By Carpenter Freightliners running around Louisiana. |

It all depends on the bus. Their was over two dozen models, most being the 2000 batch. The Springfield buses were still great, about 6 of them had white rear rims. I thought that was interesting. 7924 looked great, but I am more interested in the one I found with the bellies. I forgot the unit number so I am out of luck, but I believe it was 7904, the bus in your photos. You can see the minor rust on the front face above the windshield, but the rear was surprisingly clean.
And then their was the 1998 models 7819 and 7820, twins of this bus:
They were pasty white, worse than 7825. I was told that they have been sitting for over a year. None of the FRHT Crowns started and very few had keys. The mechanic for the branch said he would find any keys for the buses I am interested in and jump it if he can get to it. I am hoping to go back before June when they move them. I like the 2000 FRHT Crowns and this 2001 International Blue Bird

First Student does some odd things to their buses..I've noticed that on bluebirds they don't have the "cat eye" marker lights and instead use square lights, they also have a wacky bold "first student" font, and in these pictures and in the above picture a sort of times new roman font. They also never have the blue bird emblem and stripe on their buses. This is in Cincinnati at least. |

Yeah I remember seeing those when I was up there. I think FS orders plain-spec'd buses so they can easily be transferred to different states. |

I found a batch of those Springfield, MA Carpenter/Freights last night, they're sitting without plates at the Stafford, CT garage. Someone recently mentioned to me that they saw Carpenters there, which surprised me, but I finally got a chance to drive by on a trip last night to that area. I know they lost at least one contract they ran out of that yard, so it may be a maintenance-only location now (I'm not sure on this, but it makes sense from how I saw buses parked). Not sure on years or bus numbers, but the one on the end said Springfield Public Schools.
On a related subject, I think they're planning another FS auction in New Haven, CT. It's not on the 422 site yet, but from the highway, it looks like they've organized the parking at that yard in auction-style rows (until a couple weeks ago, there were a bunch of buses just driven nose-in to whatever empty space they could find). |

There's an auction scheduled for Saturday the 16th in New Haven, CT. No Freight/Carpenters on the list yet, but there are always last-minute additions. There's also an auction scheduled for August, location TBD, which I suspect will be somewhere in New England.
I saw a couple of the Springfield Freight/Carpenters on 95 the other day, being towed out toward NY. Looks like they sold some directly without going to an auction... |

Except for the ones in PUERTO RICO, our 30+ year old Crowns look in waaaaaay better condition than these phonies. That's like putting a BMW emblem on a Gremlin and going home for the day. :-) |
