PIKESVILLE, Md. -- Police said they had to look for the bus because it had left the scene, but they said they believe the driver didn't know he or she hit the child.

And again - no escort. When will adults learn that children need an escort to keep them safe around school buses. I would like to see school bus drivers required to cross children nationwide, (California does.), or at least a parent/adult designee required to escort children away from the bus and to cross children. Half or much more than half of the kids currently killed at bus stops could end with that one simple safe practice enforced. (jk)

Pikesville boy hit by school bus is critically injured

The boy was with his 7-year-old brother at the time of the accident, Czawlytko said, though the older boy was not injured. Neighbors said the curbs are being redone and thought the boys might have run across the street to play in the dirt.
