Apparently the case ... Here's more information.
Mar 19 2008 The Beaver County Times SLIPPERY ROCK TWP. — A 9-year-old Laurel Elementary School fourth-grader had a harrowing experience around 4 p.m. Tuesday when his backpack became stuck in the doors of a school bus.
Scott J. Kaufman, 44, of 224 E. Meyer Ave., New Castle, the driver of the school bus, told state police he did not realize the doors had closed on the boy’s backpack and drove about two-tenths of a mile to the next stop along Mill Bridge Road before the boy was released from the doors.
The boy, whom authorities did not identify, was the first stop of that particular bus route, elementary Principal Dennis Devorick said Wednesday morning.
The boy suffered a scraped right forearm and was taken by ambulance to Jameson Hospital in New Castle, where he was treated and released, police said. Devorick said the boy returned to classes Wednesday and was doing fine.

This is just plain ridiculous. I would have thought that this guy would have at least checked his mirrors once in over 1000 feet. But I still find it hard to understand why you would close a door without making sure the child is clear. |

how can u not notice that all the students didnt get off the bus & watch them all walk to their final destinations?!? and when he closed the door... how in the world could he not see a child stuck in the door!!???!!??
a man like this should not drive a school bus again, that's my own personal opinion!!!! |

"a man like this should not drive a school bus again, that's my own personal opinion!!!!" (Tmac0384)
And a very good one too, in my opinion. There is absolutely no good reason to keep forgiving these turkeys until, through their own negligence, they end up killing a child. If past experience is any indicator, we'll encounter many excuses and reasons why this driver allowed this to happen. But when leave comes to went, there can never be a valid excuse for this type of negligence.
Yeah we're all human and not perfect. But any human that can think beyond that fact should also remember this.. since we are not perfect and know we have the potential to make mistakes, we should always strive to do as best we can within that limitation. All too often, our humanness becomes the catch-all excuse for shoddy work habits and lackadaisical performance. |

Resigning may have been the 'smart thing, but justice was not served. How could anyone not notice that the driver did not secure the bus, leave the driver's seat, escort off the bus those not crossing, then escort across the street those crossing? Can not find how a child could be dragged by the bus had the driver not been in the driver's seat while exiting the students. (jk)
