VIRGINIA BEACH – A woman with Alzheimer’s was found more than three hours after disappearing from her home.

Police say Shirley Nelson’s family woke up around 5:00 a.m. Thursday and couldn’t find her.

The 57-year-old disappeared sometime overnight from the home in the Rock Lake Loop area in Salem Lakes.

Police said Nelson was found unharmed around 8:30 a.m.

Police called our dispatch center with a clothing description and requested the announcement be made over our radio system.

After the radio announcment was made a driver said she had seen a woman matching that description while making pupil stops.

Another bus in the area went back to the original site, found her and radioed her location, she turned over to police safe and sound

A prime example of how school bus drivers can help the community! Excellent work by the police department, bus dispatcher and the bus drivers!

I echo those sentiments exactly. Very glad the woman was found safe.
