We have a 1988 IH, DTA360, MT640, with hydraulic brakes. Sometimes I get a red Brake Light on the dash. I reset it by applying the brakes with the ignition off. I don't get it very often. I have checked out the entire brake system and everything is ok and works perfectly, fluids up etc.
What does this light refer to? Is there some adjustment on some sensor that is incorrect?

God Bless.

Check on the brake pedal just above your foot pad there are two switches, could be one if its been upgraded, but doubt it, one activates the hydromax boost motor and the other is the brake light switch. they need to be in sync with each other both need to "come on" at the same time. Or one is corroded/broken and needs to be replaced. Should be a buzzer going off too...is there? Can also be the flow switch if its a cold morning and not reading pressure right away, may need to change the power steering fluid and filter or could be the power steering pump going to pot. Does it come on when at an idle with brake applied and turning the wheel?

It'a a Thomas, sorry.

I checked, it has two switches. What do you mean, "if upgraded, one."
Do you mean I could put both systems on one switch and be "upgraded".

God Bless.

I have seen this lots of times in very cold wheather and from restricted p/s filter. The p/s filter is so cheap and easy to replace that I started changing them every other oil change. The 92 and newer IHC buses are easy not sure on the older ones.

The older style switches are round black switches with the connectors facing the rear of the bus. New style switches are two switches integrated into one.

Both should have +12V with the key on. To synchronize them (or just to check to make sure they are): Using a common test light, probe the "cold" side of both switches (no voltage with the brake pedal released), and watch for the light to light at EXACTLY the same time as the "back up motor" starts running. Check both switches this way. Adjust as needed, moving switch FORWARD makes in come on LATER.

Also check all the grounds for the TAIL LIGHTS. If they get rotton, the brake warning light will come on at odd times due to backfeeding of the tail light voltage into the brake light circuits.

Another possible solution: there is a spring loaded valve in the engine compartment. I can't remember exactly where at the moment, but it is in the brake system near the firewall. If this starts sticking, it will cause the same problem. That's what I had to do.
