Gord Taylor to lead school transportation consortium

Taylor has accepted a position as CEO of the Tri-Board Student Transportation Services consortium, which he will begin on Nov. 1. He will leave his post on the Ontario School Bus Association's board of directors, as well as his position at school bus contractor Stock Transportation, on Sept. 24.
Trans Tech Bus names new president

John Phraner will replace Dan Daniels, who plans to leave the Type A school bus manufacturer before the end of the year to be closer to his family. Phraner spent the last 22 years at North East Fabricators as the general manager, and the company has been a supplier to Trans Tech.
Fla. district recruits drivers, loses training bus builder

To close a gap of 50 school bus drivers needed, Orange County Public Schools utilized a team of recruiters — existing drivers — to reach out to the community. In other news, Larry Creech, who designed and built a cutaway bus mock-up for the district's training, has passed away.

The school bus manufacturer and ROUSH CleanTech will be the primary sponsors of 2011 Nationwide Series champion Stenhouse and his No. 6 team at the Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday. "The bright yellow Ford Mustang will definitely stand out on the track," Stenhouse says.

Parents call for return of yellow bus service

Some parents in Minneapolis are voicing their concerns about a new move to have high school students use the transit system instead of riding yellow buses to school. Shelly Jonas of the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association tells SBF that the fact that these parents are demanding yellow buses is an encouraging sign for school bus contractors, for whom competition from transit agencies is a national issue.

Ridership increases after bus fee reduction

A petition to set aside $316,250 in Lexington, Mass., town funds to reduce the fee from $550 to $300 per student is approved at a meeting in April. As of this month, ridership at Lexington Public Schools is reportedly up to 37% from 33% last year.

Jeffrey Merten joins the company as executive director of global marketing — officials say he brings expertise in brand development and marketing to his position, along with excellent dealership operations experience. Jeff Carpenter, who has worked at Blue Bird for 28 years in various sales positions, is now executive director of North American school bus sales.
