TIFFIN, Ohio — Next school year, only students in grades K-8 who live more than two miles away from school will be transported by Tiffin City Schools' buses, The Advertiser-Tribune reports.

The Tiffin City board of education approved reducing transportation of students to state-minimum standards at a meeting in December. The plan is expected to save the district approximately $120,000.

Currently, 600 regular-education students are transported daily. The new plan means that next year, the number will drop to about 250.

Hope they plan on cutting taxes for those that have to transport their own children. Schools need to find other ways to save money. Transportation is a key value because most students have parents that work and can't take them to school and not many teenagers have the money to pay for insurance on a car to drive. Do you really think most teenagers will go out of their way to find a way to go to school? It will be just another excuse for them to give up and quit school. This is just not realistic in today's situations.
