RALEIGH, N.C. — Last week, the Wake County school board voted in a special meeting to restore the after-school buses that provide rides to students who stay after class for activities, the News & Observer reports.

Board members had not realized the money was cut in the budget they approved this summer and acknowledged the mistake at the special meeting. Reaction from families brought about the change, members said.

David Neter, chief business officer for the system, presented a financial plan under which the buses could be restored using $28 million that the county is to receive in a federal education jobs grant.

The decision to cut the activity bus funding came during budget deliberations earlier this year and produced little debate at the time, according to the News & Observer.
