District’s bus route information accessible on Website

RICHMOND, Ky. — The Madison County Schools (MCS) board of education invested in software by Transfinder Corp. last year that enables parents to view bus route information on the transportation page of the district’s Website.
“It took me a year to get the routes into the computer,” MCS Transportation Director Skip Benton told the Richmond Register. “I hope that parents will find it beneficial and they won’t have to wait for anyone to answer the phone.”
Once parents access the program on the transportation page, they can search for a route by location by typing in their addresses or the name of a specific school. There is also a place for them to sign up to have important information, such as route changes or bus delays, sent to their personal e-mail addresses.
In addition, Richmond Register reported that the site offers weather information so that parents will know what weather conditions to expect when they send their children to a bus stop. The information available does not include the exact location of the bus stop, but it provides the general area.
“We’re trying to eliminate phone calls, especially at the beginning of school,” Benton told the Richmond Register. “Also, it’s to give the public a better service. You can get on the Internet any time, day or night.”
