Cummins Westport achieves engine production milestone
The company’s plant in North Carolina builds the 10,000th ISL G natural gas engine, which can be used in school buses. Officials say this makes the ISL G the largest single automotive natural gas engine production in Cummins history. Key features of the unit include power ratings from 250 to 320 horsepower and up to 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Cummins Westport Inc. recently celebrated the production of the 10,000th ISL G natural gas engine at the Cummins engine plant in North Carolina.
Cummins Westport ISL G engines are sold globally in a variety of applications, including school and shuttle buses, urban transit, vocational, and medium and heavy-duty truck and tractor vehicles.
“The Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine has logged millions of miles of superior performance for operators on four continents,” said Roe East, company president. “We will continue to leverage the success of the proven technology Cummins Westport Inc. first introduced in the ISL G to develop future high-performance natural gas engine products.”
The ISL G was launched four years ago. The production of the 10,000th unit makes the ISL G the largest single automotive natural gas engine production in Cummins history, officials said. Along with the ISL G production milestone, the plant in North Carolina also reached the 30,000 total natural gas engines production mark in June.
The ISL G is available as a factory option and can operate on compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas or renewable natural gas. Key features include power ratings from 250 to 320 horsepower and up to 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque, diesel-like performance and low emission output with the use of a maintenance-free three-way catalyst.
The ISL G does not require selective catalytic reduction or a diesel particulate filter. Moreover, the engine meets U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board 2010 emission standards.
