On Feb. 4, Espar Heater Systems received notice of new EPA validation of E-Guardian heaters specifically for idle reduction in school buses.

The validation covers the following Espar models: E-Guardian 5 (Hydronic D5), E-Guardian 8 (Hydronic D8), E-Guardian 10 (Hydronic D10) and E-Guardian 12 (Hydronic D12); and the Espar Heater Systems Airtronic D2, Airtronic D4 and Airtronic D5.

The verification can be found on the EPA SmartWay Verified Technologies Web page listed as FOH (fuel-operated heaters).

Espar has been producing environmentally-friendly heater systems for idle reduction for many years and was an original EPA SmartWay partner.  The company's fuel-operated heaters have previously earned EPA validation as well as CARB (California Air Resources Board) approval.  EPA requested that manufacturers of fuel-operated heaters apply for validation of their products specifically for school bus applications.

This new validation covers Espar heaters that were previously validated for Class 8 trucks. E-Guardian heaters provide idle reduction, which reduces emissions and fuel consumption, reduces the frequency of oil changes and provides the added safety of defrosted windows for a clear view of the road and additional interior warmth for passenger comfort.
