AURORA, Ind. — Twenty-one people, including 19 students, are injured after a school bus collided with a garbage truck on Wednesday morning, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. (Note: It was previously reported by the news source that 20 people, including 18 students, were injured.)

Sgt. Stephen Wheeles of Indiana State Police said in a tweet that troopers from Dearborn County responded to a crash involving a school bus on State Road 350 at Mt. Sinai Rd. near Aurora. Wheeles added in another tweet that the bus driver and students on board were transported to the hospital for “mostly minor injuries and complaints of pain.” Eric Lows, superintendent for South Dearborn Community School Corp., told the Cincinnati Enquirer that most of the injured students are in middle and high school, and that one student was taken to a local children’s medical center for severe injuries.

Molly Yeager Broadwater, a spokesperson for Rumpke, the company that owns the garbage truck, confirmed to the news source that the incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Broadwater added that the driver of the garbage truck was not in the truck at the time of the crash; however, the driver sustained injuries from debris and was taken to the hospital.

South Dearborn Community School Corp. said in a Facebook post that the parents of students involved in the accident are being contacted, and authorities are investigating the crash. The district also said in the post that if anyone has questions about the incident, they can contact the district's central office.
