Student honored for actions after school bus crash

Shayne Pierre, 15, received an award from the Montana Highway Patrol for assisting the injured drunken driver of the other vehicle, then returning to the bus to get the students to exit because he had noticed gasoline leaking from the vehicles.

Bill would increase stopping distance from school buses

Under the Montana legislation, motorists would be required to stop 30 feet away from a bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing for students to board or disembark. Current law requires motorists to stop 15 feet from a bus.

New state director named in Montana

Following the retirement of Maxine Mougeot, who held the position for nearly 10 years, Donell Rosenthal is chosen as state pupil transportation director. Rosenthal had been working for the Montana Office of Public Instruction as a computer support specialist and serving as the backup for Mougeot.

Montana state director to retire

Maxine Mougeot came into pupil transportation as an accountant but quickly "fell in love" with the industry, she tells SBF. She has served as state director for nearly 10 years and has been heavily involved in state and national associations.
