The school board decides to implement a pilot transportation program for students who live at least 3 miles from school.

Mom ordered to serve jail time for assaulting bus driver

A judge sentences Bethany Rudd to 10 days in jail for the December incident in which she boarded her son’s school bus and allegedly hit driver Helen Gibson in the face. However, the judge allows Rudd to file for an appeal, enabling her to avoid jail time for now, and she is due back in court in April for the assault and battery charge against her.

Atlanta Public Schools conducts a district-wide review of its transportation system and takes in feedback on issues that have arisen since school started. The result is more buses, more stops and more crossing guards “to ensure that all students travel to and from their schools in a safe and efficient manner,” district officials say.

GPS devices help operation diffuse parent-driver disputes

A Minnesota district’s transportation director says having access to the locations of his buses is helpful if a parent says a bus missed a stop. The system also notifies supervisors if drivers get lost while on their routes so they can help the drivers get back on track.
