The school board decides to implement a pilot transportation program for students who live at least 3 miles from school.
A judge sentences Bethany Rudd to 10 days in jail for the December incident in which she boarded her son’s school bus and allegedly hit driver Helen Gibson in the face. However, the judge allows Rudd to file for an appeal, enabling her to avoid jail time for now, and she is due back in court in April for the assault and battery charge against her.
According to police in Virginia, the mother of a student allegedly accused the bus driver of threatening to kill her son, although the driver reported that she had told the boy to sit down for safety reasons. After her arm got caught in the closing bus door, the mother allegedly hit the driver in the face.

The result is more buses, more stops and more crossing guards “to ensure that all students travel to and from their schools in a safe and efficient manner,” district officials say.
