WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is hosting a webinar next week that will include technical presentations on its investigation into the 2018 Indiana school bus crash that killed three students.

The NTSB’s Office of Highway Safety will hold a webinar addressing the fatal collision, which occurred in Rochester, Ind. on Oct. 30, 2018, according to an email that the agency sent on Tuesday to the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services, National Association for Pupil Transportation, and the National School Transportation Association.

As School Bus Fleet previously reported, motorist Alyssa Shepherd struck four students, killing 6-year-old twins Xzavier and Mason Ingle and their 9-year-old sister, Alivia Stahl, and seriously injuring an 11-year-old boy, later identified as Maverick Lowe.

The NTSB released its final report on its investigation into the crash on April 21. The report concludes that the probable cause was Shepherd’s failure to stop for the students’ school bus. Contributing to the cause was the school district’s inadequate bus route safety assessment.

The purpose of the webinar is for NTSB staff to deliver a series of technical presentations regarding the NTSB safety investigation and the resultant safety recommendations. Stakeholders will have an opportunity to submit written questions following the presentations.

The webinar “Vehicle Collision with Student Pedestrians Crossing High-speed Roadway to Board School Bus — Rochester, Indiana,” will be held on May 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Register for the webinar here. Registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
