ALBANY, N.Y. — With its annual conference just around the corner, deadlines are coming up for a handful of scholarships offered by the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) and its partners.

The NAPT Conference and Trade Show will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from Nov. 2 to 5. The deadline for two scholarships that will pay the registration fee for recipients — the Dr. Peter and Linda Lawrence Training Scholarship and the Zonar Scholarship — has been extended to Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to an announcement the association sent to its members on Monday.

The scholarships are designed to help NAPT members access professional development and timely education opportunities by providing financial assistance, according to NAPT’s announcement.

Additionally, the Sol Englander Innovation in School Transportation Safety Scholarship, sponsored by Rosco Vision Systems, will award a $2,500 educational grant for the NAPT Conference and Trade Show or tuition/registration reimbursement for another pre-approved school bus industry-related event to an association member who has come up with an innovative school bus transportation safety solution.

NAPT members and business partners, as well as students, are eligible to apply, David McDonald, vice president of business development for Rosco Vision Systems, told School Bus Fleet.

Last year, the scholarship was awarded to Rick Grisham, the executive director of transportation at Cobb County (Ga.) School District, for a student backpack tag system he created to enhance safety at his district.

Applications are due Oct. 11. To apply, go here.
