PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A school bus aide here is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a special-needs student, and a bus driver is accused of not intervening, NBC Washington reports.

Court documents state that video from a surveillance camera on a Prince William County Public Schools bus reportedly showed aide Kelly Rucker grabbing a 12-year-old boy to restrain him on three occasions in January, according to the news source. When that didn’t work, Rucker punched him in the back of the head. The boy reportedly screamed in pain and asked other students for help. The bus driver, Tamar McNear, allegedly didn’t help the boy or alert school officials or the police, NBC Washington reports.

Rucker has received three felony child abuse charges, and McNear is charged with child endangerment, according to the news source.

School officials told NBC Washington that the aide and driver were removed from bus duty and all contact with children in January. A statement from the school district, obtained by the news source, said that employees who are charged with felonies are “placed on leave pending the outcome of internal investigations” and that employees found to be guilty of felonies are automatically dismissed.
