ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — Police here cited a school bus driver for negligent driving after her bus rolled over on Monday morning.

The incident happened just before 7 a.m. as the bus was exiting one highway and entering another, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police said they believe that school bus driver Tyra India Wilcox, 50, was speeding when she lost control of the bus. Wilcox’s bus flipped onto its side, and a car struck the bus.

Two 15-year-old high school students on the bus suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital as a precaution, police said. Wilcox and school bus aide Jessica Blank, 44, were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries, as was the driver of the car involved in the crash.

The highway where the crash occurred was closed for about two hours.

A spokesman for the Howard County Public School System told NBC4 Washington that the school bus driver has been suspended pending an investigation, and standard post-accident tests will be conducted.
