KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A large crowd gathered at Blue Bird’s booth on Tuesday for the unveiling of the Micro Bird T-Series bus during the National Association for Pupil Transportation trade show.

Company officials described the new Type A bus as a “game-changer” and noted its striking design, including a narrow body for enhanced maneuverability and optimum efficiency.

According to Blue Bird, the new body’s aerodynamic features aid in increasing fuel economy by about 20% and offering low cost of operation. The bus is available lift-equipped in single and dual rear wheel with a capacity of up to 25 passengers under 10,400 pounds.

Company officials said that the dynamic Ford engines and six-speed automatic transmission have more than 7 million miles of testing. Available fuel options include gasoline and diesel.

Enhanced features, according to Blue Bird, include maximized driver visibility, optimized placement of switches in the cockpit for driver comfort and safety, and easily accessible wiring, electrical components and engine compartment.

“Micro Bird is thrilled to introduce the new T-Series line at the NAPT Summit,” said Steve Girardin, president and CEO of Micro Bird Inc. “Transportation directors will appreciate the impressive fuel economy, drivers will love the responsive power and service technicians will welcome the ease of serviceability. Our Micro Bird T-Series is a true game-changer.”

The Micro Bird T-Series is available in school bus, MPV, MFSAB and commercial configurations. Micro Bird is taking orders for the new line, with full production scheduled for spring 2015.

Micro Bird is a joint venture between Blue Bird and the Girardin family.
