LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The SafeGuard STAR Special Needs will be unveiled here on March 11 at the Transporting Students with Disabilities and Preschoolers 17th National Conference and Exhibition.

The STAR Special Needs offers the same protection as the standard STAR, with the extended ability to accommodate children with a wide range of special health care needs via its five-point restraint system and extra support accessories.

SafeGuard organized focus groups at last year’s disabilities conference, inviting key members of the special-needs transportation community to give their feedback, which was considered during development of the STAR Special Needs.

The restraint adjusts to provide support for children 25 to 105 pounds, with torso heights up to 20 inches. Features include an abductor, recline wedge, torso supports, height adjusters and adjustable headrests. The restraint meets or exceeds all applicable federal and Head Start safety standards and installs on both standard FMVSS 222 seats and FMVSS 210 seats.

The STAR Special Needs will be available for purchase through authorized STAR distributors beginning March 11.
