Have 75 new Bluebirds we are experiencing a lot of them with water in fuel lamp coming on dash witch also activates the eng warn light,
fault code Fault Code: 428

Water in Fuel Indicator Sensor Circuit - Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source
so this is telling me a wiring problem but
I even drained some fuel to check for water absolutely none in the mason jar. I unplugged it and light went out on dash for 1 week. now back on, plug it back in now light is out again.
have a yellow wire and white wire going to it white has 4.78 v so the yellow wire is just the return, which jives with wiring diagrams.
these Buses have the new style filter up in engine compartment, not back by fuel tank under bus where they always froze up solid when cold. filter # is fs1098 fleetguard.
ANYBODY ELSE SEEING THIS.

we have those filters ( we moved all those fuel filters on older buses to under the hood with a kit from Bluebird) haven't seen any issues yet

Did they give you anything to plug into the harness plug that was back by the tank like a terminating end resistor so it will fool the connection so it wouldn't think it was just unplugged.

I did not do any myself, but i think they just hacked into harness at ecm and ran wires to filter(how i would do it)
can't see them having a 30 foot harness to bring it from the back up to the front of the bus

HERE YOU GO
WATER IN FUEL LAMP
-FIND THE CONNECTOR THAT IS
NOT CONNECTED TO FILTER
SOULD BE A YELLOW AND WHITE WIRE
NEWER BUSES WITH FUEL FILTER ON
FIREWALL, SO NEED TO DO THE PLUG
DOWN BY REAR AXLE
-CUT PLUG OFF/ LIQUID ELETIC TAPE
EACH INDIVIDUAL END/ THEN SHRINK
WRAP EACH END/THEN SHRINK WRAP
BOTH AND THEN SHRINK BOTH WIRES/
COVER WITH LIQUID ELECTRIC TAPE
WIRE TIE BACK UP.
I FOUND THE PLUG BACK BY THE REAR AXLE FILLED WITH WATER

sweet, but the harness is still ran to rear axle area I wouldn't have left that part hooked to ecm ( by hacked I meant cut that useless harness out and ran wires to new filter location)
I can't believe they left that harness to the rear actively connected to ecm

Ya I typed it before I refressed the page.. You can order them now up on firewall think they charge alittle more but with engine heat works much better on the freeze ups on road.
normally they have the extra plugs already built into the generic harnesses anyways. If you can believe it they put electrical tape around the edge and 1/8 inch up left the whole top open and it was sticking upwards pulled it down and out came the water. still confused why it doesn't put the light on unless the computer just needs to see 1 of them plugged in.

We are running into the problem with the WIF lights coming on. Cummins told us it was a bad water separator filter so they sent us a filter assembly, we changed it and that did not work. We tried your idea with the plug running to the rear axle, cut and sealed off the wires......voila the problem is gone. Thank U UncleFish for the tip, it was driving us nuts.
