Awhile back I bought a tool to bend the tabs on the spindle lock washers . It made bending the tabs on the outer nut in the back axle . Other wise I had a difficult time trying to bend them . It is a bar with a hole in the center . The hole had a a flat spot . Then there was a stub that was flat on one side . Tis stud had a not on it . You put the bolt thru and the stud had a notch .If you need more info let me know

Why bother when you can replace them with these things?

Depends on the axle rating etc.
Stemco 448-4836 fits our IC and C2 10,000 lb front axles.
449-4975 fits many of our IC rear axles.

Our Stemco distributor is Midwest Wheel Company

That's too bad because I used to spend 10 15 minutes trying to bend that tab with anything else . In those days I did a brake job maybe every couple years . With my new district I have been doing bearing checks and brakes at least every few months .To me it has been a god send .
