International school bus DT466, SAHR parking brake wont release, there is Service red warning light with buzzer on dash, and no Parking brake light indicator. checked under bus, parking brake cable broke, try to replace new cable, just notice SAHR Canister shaft back to maximum, which means parking brake applied to maximum, any idea to release parking brake? to be able to connect parking cable, Thanks.

If the problem is at the cable back off the brake adjuster. Key on, engine off, Release the park brake. Or you can use the meritor program to release/apply the park brake.

Still having issues with this? I've had a few of them that get stuck, it's a crappy design. If you go underneath and pull the boot back on the actuator, you'll see that there's a bunch of corrosion in there. Scrape what you can with a pick and spray down with brake clean to get the crud out. Then take penetrating oil and spray the hell out of it. There's also a small hole in the bottom of the housing, take your pick and scrape the crud out of there. Spray it out with the brake clean again, then spray the hell out of it with penetrating oil again. Then apply and release the parking brake repeatedly in order to work everything around. If it's really bad in there, you may want to repeat the process a few times.
