What is the procedure for removing an injector from a dt466e engine?

I ran an engine on, injector buzz test and came up with code 463. Code 463 states-cylinder contribution test failed, ECM finds cylinder contribution insufficient, refer to perfomance diagnostics. Number 3 cylinder if it matters.

Is this telling me I have a bad injector?

Thanks.

Not necessarily, it's telling you there's a weak cylinder. If the injector shorted there would be a code 423 or 453. The solenoid is ok, but the injector pintle may be a problem, or there is another mechanical cause, bent/burnt valve etc. An injector scuff test would be next, or you could swap injectors and see if the contribution loss follows the injector to the other cylinder. (each cylinder will set it's own code 461-466).

Live each like it's going to be your last, one day you'll be right!

Procedure for removing a HEUI injector...

1) Using the galley plug, drain the HEUI oil galley (remove doghouse, remove large plug alow oil to drain into pan under f/w housing).

2) Remove fuel return fitting at rear of head, allow fuel to drain

3) Remove V/C

4) Remove injector haress and oil diverter from injector hold-downs (one bolt per inj)

5) Remove injector hold-down bolt for each inj. to be removed.

6) Slide inj. hold-down to free it from the pivot bolt on opposite side of hold-down bolt

7) Pry injector upward on the underside of the hold-down

Installation is reverse of removal. A roadtest of 30 miles is needed to completely purge all air from the HEUI system.

You will need:
1) - injector (seal kit included)
1) - draft tube o-ring
1) - Injector harness o-ring

The V/C gasket is REUSEABLE, there is NO NEED to waste $$ replacing it unless it is crimped or torn.

Be SURE the injector copper come out of the head with the injector, if it does NOT, it MUST be fished out of the injector tube.

DO NOT strike the top of the injector to seat it! Use a bolt and prybar to push the hold-down into position and install the hold-down clamp bolt.

Retorque ALL injector hold-down clamp bolts (one on ea.) EACH TIME the V/C is removed.. DO NOT overtorque. Replace any bolts that will not hold Tq.

What would the problems be if the oil galley plug and the return fuel line were not removed prior to injector removal?
