Running under load oil leaks steadily out of the spinner filter. Bus shop overhauled the engine because of this. After overhaul still leaking oil. They converted to open crankcase breather. Still leaking. Brought it to me...Crankcase pressure in spec at high idle no load. Crankcase spinner filter is new. Still leaks. Working on isolating air compressor. Dual turbo...
Wondering if the turbos might be feeding boost past the seals into the crankcase via the return. Turbo shop, who has always been right so far, says that can't happen. I'm not so sure. Turbo drain lines go into base of spinner filter.
Going down the road it still leaks out the spinner discharge with the blowby tube unhooked at the valve cover. Getting pressure from somewhere. Any ideas?

your crankcase pressure check should have picked up on turbo or compressor sending pressure into base, is there blockage where the spinner filter empties into the base so it fills and runs out tube

OEM trained in wiring and all engine platforms for over 20 years

Double check the part number on the spinner filter, if converted to road draft style it requires a dif part number due to the orifice size and the valve cover need to have the baffle in it.

Spinner is correct plus it was doing this before spinner was changed. Bus garage thought it was engine blowby and overhauled the engine. No change. Do not see a check valve on this generation system. Have all the SI and the CTB's. Leaning towards the turbo's. Got ahold of a guy that has been at this a few decades. He has seen exhaust get past the seals and cause problems like this. And NOT leak oil out the turbo. Rare but he has seem it a few times over decades on several makes of engine.

I think we may have wear on the turbo shaft bushings/bearings. Returning to much oil. Only about a 1" square drain opening in the base. Might cause oil to back up into the top.
Will update with what we find.

We also checked crankcase pressure with the correct adapter and a Dwyer slack tube manometer. Full throttle on floor about 2.6 inches H2O, on road full load about 6.1. So the crankcase is not overpressured.

wonder if one can tee off the turbo returns to measure pressure without getting oil pressure mixed into the reading , this would tell if its exhaust gas from the turbos
you can just order the turbo cartridges and r&r right on chassis also
we had a head redone a couple of months ago they used a two piece style valve seal which all of them failed and put oil out the exhaust ports

OEM trained in wiring and all engine platforms for over 20 years

There is an excellent turbo shop in the area so I use them usually. But would be interested in a source for the cartridges. Turbo is on its way. More testing would have been interesting but to much backlog. Thank you for your input. Your posts are always interesting and on topic.

5010932R91 high pressure turbo cartridge from Ih sorry I was miss informed there is no low pressure cartridge, the high pressure goes bad more often then the low and thank you

Don't know yet. Turbo shop is still 7 or 8 days out. Turbo looked pretty crusty. I will update when it is back together.

OK it is fixed. Problem was the high pressure oil manifold had a crack on top. Spraying oil straight up. Oil was running across the top then down the sides. Went behind the baffle and out the breather tube. Odd thing was it started fine, cold or hot. Ran great. No ICP codes.

We found it by rerouting another tube with a hose on it out to where we could get a good look at.A steady trickle of. Especially under load. Took the valve cover off and started it. Very obvious. Found out afterwards that this has happened in the past. Very rare. I was told it was good this had been changed over to an open crankcase breather system.

This problem can and has scattered a few engines with the closed system.
