Hello! I'm working on an 06 IC RE-300. The problem is the stepwell light does not come on when you open the doors with the headlights on. Bulb is ok. Socket not getting power. Where do I go from here? Any help is appreciated.

I also checked the circuit breakers and they were ok.

Door switch above entrance door? Could also have a broken wire behind the stepwell.

Our old REs have the stepwell light powered from the clearance light circuit through the door switch. Is yours air or electric?

Ours are air also. There were a couple style door switches, one looked like colored lego blocks stacked 4 or 5 deep. One section handled the stepwell light. Very problematic.

So should I replace the door switch and see if that was the problem? Have not found a problem with anything else. Thanks for replying.

I would see if I could verify a switch failure before just replacing it. Open up the panel and use a test light to see where power is entering and going in what switch position. Our old ones have a power supply on one section of the switch that is only hot with the clearance lights on. Separate switch for clearance lights on some of ours. Yours might be hot only with the headlights. Every state seems to be different. You will find it.

Yes, it was a loose wire on the door switch. You have to turn on the clearance lights and headlights and open the door as you said. Thanks for the heads up 671Fan.

That's good news. If you've never priced one of those Square D or Cutler-Hammer switches they used...just be glad you didn't have to buy one. $300-$400 is the going rate.
