I HAVE A 2009 BB WITH A ISB7 CUMMINS. THROWING A 1972 (JPRO) CODE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE 3 HIGH. TEMP IS MAXT OUT. PIPE AND DPF OUT LET IS COOL TO THE TOUCH. I REPLACED THE #3 TEMP SENCOR CLEARED THE FAULT. DROVE BUS 1 MILE AND CODE CAME BACK. FOLLOWED THE WIRES FROM THE SENCOR TO THE PLUG ZIP TIED TO CROSS MENBER. UNPLUGED IT AND WAS WET, CLEANED AND DRYED IT PLUGED BACK IN AND THE CODE CLEARED. THOUGHT THIS WAS THE FIX. DROVE BUS 1 MILE AND CODE CAM BACK. BUS DIES AFTER 1 MILE. LOOKED UP WIRE DIAGRAM AND FOUND THAT YELLOW WIRE FROM #3 SENCOR TO THE ECM HAS GOOD CON. TEMP SENCOR IS WORKING ONLY ITS 1,000 DEG HIGH. RAN A BURN AND #3 SENCOR WENT FROM 1472 (MAX) TO 1084. WHILE IN THE BURN. USED LAZER TEMP GAUGE AND ITS SHOWS A TEMP AT THE SENCOR OF RIGHT AROUND 600 ON OUTSIDE OF PIPE NEXT TO #3 SENCOR. COULD I HAVE A BAD NEW SENCOR?

Yes you could. THe temp when doing a regen on # 3 should be around 1000* Your temperature on the outside of the pipe will not be that hot.
