2011 IC CE with Maxxforce DT. Range Inhibited light will come on when trying to shift to reverse or drive this one does not have the safety you can shift without your foot on the brake. No codes in engine or transmission. I can get it to shift after cycling the key 2 or 3 times, once it would not correct until about 20-30 key cycles. Any help would be appreciated.
I thought they all had the parameter of pressing brake before shift, and if it doesn't one of the speed sensors must be reading something it does not like
OEM trained in wiring and all engine platforms for over 20 years
The older ones did not have that safety yet. I think they started doing that around 2016. I checked the only external sensor i could find and it seems to be working.

You might try checking your throttle pedal if the computer sees sensor reading pedal depressed when it is not it will set range inhibit. Also known as idle validation switch.
