We have a 1999 IH BB with the DT466E engine that will not build oil pressure. What we've done: 1. Replaced by-pass valve behind filter header. 2. Checked oil pick up tube and installed new gasket. 3. Replaced engine oil pump with new. 4. Changed oil & filter. 5. Replaced fuel check ball; old one deteriorated.
The bus did go out on Tuesdays PM school run with no issues. Bus would not start Wednesday morning. No oil pressure again. Installed manual gauge at oil pressure sending unit, no pressure. Removed gauge, blew compressed air through block, crank motor, oil comes out. Replace sending unit, bus starts and runs. Thursday A.M. bus starts and dies. We're assuming HPOP had enough oil to start the engine. No oil pressure. Any ideas? We're out of them.
Thanks.
New info, the backing plate on the original oil pump is warped badly. Also, the center hole where the front of the crankshaft comes through the front cover is pitted and dished in a little where the oil pump backing plate sits. Could the oil pump "loose prime" with this pitted and dished cover? Should there be a gap on the front cover where the oil pump mounts using a strait edge? The new oil pump backing plate is getting scratched by the pump gears after running a few hours. Are wear marks on the plate normal? I don't recall seeing marks on DT360 & 466 plates during rebuilds.
A little history: this bus had the back front cover replaced when the water pump went out under warranty. The oil pick up tube gasket was found to be out of position, bolted up anyway.
Thanks again. |
