I just met a fellow that bought a 88 rear engine Crown from a Washington state school system. What an unusual bus! I found this strange: He had to completely rebuild the rear end, gears, bearings seals etc and weld hairline cracks in the housing. What would cause this kind of damage?

What kind of rear suspension did the bus have, air bags or leaf springs?

I believe it had air on the rear suspension.
