I drained the cooling system on my All American with a Cummins . I filled it back up and engine didn't take as much as I drained out .Ran engine and level didn't drop . Ran recirc pump and watched temp bus over heated . I pressured system and thought okay ,Coolant level dropped and thought I was okay Still over heated .Found a plug on the pipe off the thermostat .I didn't see that with all the dust and dirt Removed that and ran engine and coolant level didn't drop and no coolant out of the hole .Tried to pressure system again and no good . So what am I missing ?
I usually top it off and let the bus run a route. Check it the next day and top it off. It's usually good after that. Thermostat has to open up and that's usually about the amount I need to put in. Only once did I have an air pocket in the driver's heater because of the way it's designed.
googlr snap on cooling system refiller part number SVTSRAD262A it pulls a vacuum on the cooling system then pulls in the coolant so u dont get air pockets

just fill and pin it with the cap off until air is removed , no vacuum puller is needed , when I drain a bus I shut the valves off for the bus so I only drain the engine on a truck I would use pinchers to keep the heater core full
