I have a 2010 bluebird all american . The fuel gauge was acting acting up . The gauge would read quarter a tank driver would fill it and take only 7 gallons . Replaced sender and when it's full it will read full for a few seconds and start dropping to half . Is there something else that could cause this ? Except for wiring I am suspecting gauge . Bluebird wants 340 dollars because you are also getting other gauges with it . I am thinking of pulling the gauge out of another bus and swapping to see if it's the gauge ? Thanks
Testing a Gauge By Substitution To help quickly determine if a suspected gauge is faulty, the harness remove connector from an adjacent gauge. It can be temporarily substituted. 1. Label and remove the wiring harness from the gauge in question. 2. Label and remove the wiring harness from an adjacent gauge. 3. Plug the connector from the known “good” gauge into the suspect gauge. 4. Support the instrument cluster in a safe position. 5. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position. Start the engine if necessary. 6. Check whether the suspect gauge now indicates a value. If it does not, the gauge may be faulty. If the gauge indicator needle now indicates a reading, the original malfunction is probably not due to a faulty instrument panel harness. A gauge test can determine if the gauge itself needs to be replaced.
There is no other gauge to switch connectors . Fuel gauge is in a pod and no way to seperate the wires or gauges . When you start the bus the gauges do a test . They all go to half then up all the way then down and then reset to where they should read . The I used another gauge and it reads better but not where it should . when I check with a power probe I get a lot of static from the positive side . Which to me must be dirty power .
