WORTH COUNTY, Iowa — A man who pled guilty to vehicular homicide by reckless driving in the death of a young girl boarding a school bus has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, RadioIowa reports.

Aaron Gunderson received his sentence Friday in Worth County District Court. A more serious charge of vehicular homicide while intoxicated was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Gunderson struck 7-year-old Kadyn Halverson while she was walking toward a school bus that had its lights flashing and stop sign extended. He fled the scene while Halverson was dying of her injuries.
