SAN ANTONIO — A school bus driver was killed on Monday morning after her bus hit another bus and then crashed into a fence, San Antonio Express-News reports.
Dolores Martinez was traveling northbound with five students on the bus when she lost control of the vehicle and it went into a median. The bus entered southbound lanes and collided with a Judson Independent School District bus carrying 59 elementary school students. Martinez’s bus then jumped a curb and came to a stop after running into the fence of a house.
Lt. Jose Trevino of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office told the news source that Martinez wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was flung onto the steps near the bus door. She was pronounced dead at the scene. San Antonio Express-News reports that Martinez’s sudden loss of control of the bus might have been caused by a medical emergency, but Trevino said it’s unclear what caused the crash. None of the students on either bus was seriously injured.
