TOPEKA, Kan. — Former state trooper Keith Dreiling has been appointed state director for pupil transportation in Kansas.

Dreiling replaces longtime state director Larry Bluthardt, who retired last year after a 25-year career with the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE).

As state director, Dreiling will oversee all aspects of Kansas' school bus safety program.

Dreiling comes to the KSDE following his retirement from the Kansas Highway Patrol. He spent 27 years with the patrol, serving as a road trooper in several areas of Kansas and as a field training officer for a number of graduating recruits.

Dreiling was one of five troopers in the state assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Pilot Project in 1991 and has served in various positions throughout the patrol’s general headquarters.

Dreiling began his duties with the KSDE in February.
