LARGO, Fla. — A bus driver for Pinellas County Schools is scheduled to be honored on Tuesday for his actions to bring a toddler to safety, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Jim Letos was driving to a middle school last month when he saw the toddler unattended on the side of a highway. He pulled his bus over and called 911, then brought the child on the bus, where passengers helped him care for the child until authorities arrived.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, when the parents came out of a nearby motel looking for the child, Letos told them that the toddler was safe, but he waited until police arrived to confirm the parents’ identities before he handed over the child.
