DURHAM, N.C. — Eric Becoats, superintendent of Durham Public Schools, has been reprimanded by the Durham Board of Education for using a school bus and driver for personal use, the Associated Press and WNCN report.

Becoats used a Durham Public Schools activity bus and driver on June 7 and June 8 to go to private events and a trip to a shopping mall with friends and family. The superintendent asked to be billed for the cost of the bus and driver.

Becoats said in a statement that he paid in full for the services and was informed of policies prohibiting personal use of the vehicles after he used the bus, and apologized, according to the news outlets. The school board determined that Becoats’ violations were unintentional.
