VAN BUREN, Ark. — A motorist took a photo last week of a school bus driving though an intersection with children sitting on the steps near the bus door, KFSM reports.

Former Crawford County Deputy Jerry Pittman told the news outlet he initially took the picture to show how fast the bus was driving, and later enlarged the picture and spotted the children sitting on the steps.

The Van Buren School District is addressing the situation, according to KFSM. Kerry Schneider, the district superintendent, said he would ensure the drivers understand that the district does not  approve of that practice, the news outlet reports.

Police told KFSM a bus driver with students sitting on the bus steps could face a misdemeanor traffic citation with a fine and a district superintendent who knew about a bus being overloaded could also face a citation, although it is unclear whether the bus in question was overloaded.
