2 windows shot on school bus

SEATTLE — A school bus here was damaged by suspected BB gunfire on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The school bus driver heard a noise, then saw two windows on her side of the bus shattered, according to a Seattle Public Schools post on Twitter.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred near Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. There were no students on the bus at the time.

Police began searching the area around 3:40 p.m. after receiving reports that someone had shot out two windows on a school bus. According to the Seattle Police Department, witnesses also reported seeing a man with a rifle running down the street near the bus and then into a nearby home.

Police worked with officials at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary to place the school on lockdown while they searched for the suspect. SWAT officers searched a home but weren’t able to find the suspect.

Meanwhile, police received multiple reports from witnesses saying that a group of teens had been playing with a BB gun in the area shortly before the bus was shot.

Seattle Police Department officials said they now believe that the bus was damaged by BB gunfire — bullets had initially been suspected. Officers are still investigating the incident.

Seattle Public Schools officials said that a replacement bus was sent to the elementary school. The lockdown was lifted around 5 p.m.
