WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Police are investigating an incident in which a 10-year-old boy was struck and killed by his school bus on his way home from school on Monday, WKYT reports.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran told the news outlet that Jonathan A. Chatham was pronounced dead at the scene. He added that bus driver Amanda Woliver was operating the Whitley County School System bus when she let four students off at a stop, and as she started to drive away, she somehow hit Chatham, according to WKYT. Cochran said alcohol and drug use are not suspected.

Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell told the news outlet that the boy cleared the bus but somehow went into the ditch line and came back under the wheels. He referred to the incident as “pure accident” and said the bus driver was distraught and taken to a hospital, WKYT reports.
