GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. — A bus driver here is being commended for keeping calm and safely navigating her route through a hailstorm last week, LEX18 reports.

Terrie Eggen had 40 students aboard her bus when the hailstorm hit. It was “deafening,” brought hail that “was the size of golf balls,” lasted for about 10 minutes, and resembled a snowstorm with whiteout conditions at times, she told the news source. Tornado sirens also sounded off as she was driving and she had to pull the bus over at one point, according to LEX18.

Eggen added that she had the students duck behind the seats and cover their heads and bodies, and credited the bus garage with coaching her through the process.
