GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. — A man was killed on Monday while walking along a highway after being hit by a mirror on a school bus, KATV reports.

According to the Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash report, the crash occurred at about 6:10 a.m., the news source reports. The bus was traveling south on Highway 7 while the pedestrian, Steven C. Coons, was walking “partially in the lane” of the highway. The mirror on the school bus hit Coons, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KATV.

The school bus was reportedly a Jessieville School District bus and had no students on board at the time, KATV reports. In a statement, Jessieville Superintendent Dr. Ralph Carter said that the district cannot comment on the incident since it is still under investigation, and, “We have lost a member of our community and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all of those involved in this tragic situation.”
