ARNAUDVILLE, La. — A high school student here is being treated at a hospital after having had a heart attack and being found unresponsive on a school bus on Wednesday, KLFY reports.
Keith James, principal of Beau Chene High School, told the news source that the student suffered the heart attack at about 7:30 a.m. James added that the bus driver, Tonya Carriere, was notified by students that a student was unresponsive, and was having what the students thought was a seizure.
Carriere went to check on the student and tried to get her out of the seat. Students on the bus who were CPR certified performed CPR on the student, according to KLFY. Four faculty members then came aboard the bus and used a defibrillator several times and were able to revive her, James told the news source. Paramedics then arrived and airlifted her to a hospital.
The student is in critical but stable condition, according to KLFY.
