Planning for the 17th National Congress on School Transportation (NCST) in 2020 is now in the works just about three years out, with committee members being re-established and selected through this summer.

Steering Committee members are currently being reaffirmed, according to an announcement from David Koskelowski, chairman of NCST 2020. Many of the current members have served on past NCST Steering Committees.

Representation of the sponsoring organizations on the NCST 2020 Interim/Steering Committee is outlined in the congress operating procedures. The current members are:

• National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS): David Koskelowski (Wyoming state director and Steering Committee chairman), Patrick McManamon (Vermont state director), Max Christensen (Iowa state director), and Diana Hollander (Nevada state director)
• National Association for Pupil Transportation: Ron Kinney and Bill Tousley
• National School Transportation Association: Donnie Fowler and Dan Kobussen
• National Safety Council: Bill Loshbough and Gary Catapano
• School Bus Manufacturers Technical Council: Bruce Miles (Blue Bird Corp.) and Kenneth Whisnant (Thomas Built Buses)

Charlie Hood, executive director of NASDPTS, will continue to serve as an advisor to the Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee’s first meeting will take place in July in Reno, Nevada, at the School Transportation News Conference and Trade Show, with the date and time to be announced. The congress organizational structure and Steering Committee membership will be finalized at the meeting, and committee members will begin the process of selecting coordinators and Writing Committee chairs.

Koskelowski thanked those who served in and supported previous congresses as well as those who plan to serve in the NCST 2020.

“As we move forward in this process, it is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Chairman of the NCST 2020, the 17th National Congress on School Transportation,” Koskelowski said in the announcement. “I am surrounded by talented school bus industry individuals who bring great expertise to the Congress. The journey begins.”
