HEBRON, Ky. — A school bus driver here responded just in the nick of time last week when a boy on his bus was choking, potentially saving his life.
The fifth-grade student was choking and beginning to turn blue when he approached Rod Price, a bus driver for Boone County Schools, according to the school district’s website and Facebook page. Price performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge a mint that the boy was choking on, according to WCPO. He told the news source that the incident “started and ended so quickly” and that he didn’t have time to think about it.
The district thanked Price on its website, and added, “We have wonderful employees throughout the district and we are so grateful to have people like Rod taking care of our students.” The boy’s father met with Price and shook his hand on Wednesday, WCPO reports. He told the news source that he had thought that he could have lost his son “if it wasn’t for the actions of the bus driver.”
