Once school buses are retired from pupil transportation, they're often overhauled for completely different uses. Here are some interesting and unexpected examples we've come across recently.

Late January and early February 2011 have produced severe weather in the Midwest and Northeast, with residents contending with massive amounts of snowfall and frigid temperatures. Dedicated industry professionals are honored during the annual NAPT awards banquet, while sessions cover such topics as bullying and managing students with emotional disorders. The trade show features new products from many companies.
The sixth edition of our Photo Contest drew 130 inventive entries from nearly 40 industry professionals and enthusiasts. Here, we present those that were selected as winners, runners-up and noteworthy entries. The three winners earned $100 each.

The 15th National Congress on School Transportation (NCST) convened in Warrensburg, Mo., May 16-19, 2010. Delegates revised the National School Bus Specifications and Procedures document, updating it from the 2005 version. The next congress meets in 2015.
An Ohio school district's transportation department restored a 1992 model year school bus over a two-month period in 2001 as part of the operation's bus refurbishing program. The bus is still being used to transport students.
