Comanche Independent School District partnered with Comanche County Emergency Management to sponsor a full-scale emergency exercise on Oct. 25. The exercise included a simulated fire, active shooter, bus accident and rescue event. Richard Mussey, the district's transportation director, coordinated the event and provided photos and details.
On Sept. 20, Freeport School District #145 held a training to help first responders learn how to deal with emergencies involving school buses at the suggestion of a bus driver who is also a first responder. The scenario involved a mass casualty drill that included a school bus accident.
Glendale (Ariz.) Elementary School District #40 commemorated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a friendly competition among the district's departments and schools for "Paint it Pink" on Oct. 3. The district's transportation department staff made signs conveying the importance of awareness and decorated one of the school buses with them. Doris Bean, manager of transportation at the district, provided the photos and details of the event.

More than 1,100 bus drivers and attendants at Houston Independent School District took part in a back-to-school training program called “Safety Expo.” Hands-on activities included evacuating a school bus on fire (as simulated by a smoke machine).

He told SBF he was moving some files in his office when he came across the photos.
